Summary: cqp and all utils: usage is wider than 80 chars

Initial Comment:
More an annoyance than a bug: many of the usage messages are wider than an 80-char terminal can hold. Not much of an issue on *nix because we are all using fancy terminals from Xwindows which can be much wider than this; but in WinXP the cmd.exe prompt cannot be made wider than 80 chars no matter how you resize it. So it's a serious pain there.

Message:
A related problem is that many of the utils embed the progname variable in
their usage() output. progname is initialised to argv[0]. But this could be
anything - e.g. the full path of some symlink somewhere on the system that
points at the util executable. So no way to make it fit....
