Did you select a metadata file? (from the file list on the form)

If not, that’s the error!

If you don’t have a metadata file, then you need to press the “minimalist metadata” button instead.

No: metadata fields are columns in the metadata file, which is expected to be a series of 1+ features that apply to texts within the corpus (and which you can later use to search subsections of the corpus.)

For instance, if your corpus contains some fiction and some non-fiction texts, you might have a metadata file where one column contains the value “FICT” for the former and “NONFICT” for the latter – defining two categories of text.

If your corpus is homogenous, then of course you don’t need to bother with this at all.

Unfortunately the chapter of the manual that documents how metadata works is still mostly unwritten….

best

Andrew.

Dear Andrew,

Thanks! The problem of deleting the corpus goes when I manually edited the part but Now when I am creating the metadata for the sample corpus a new problem arises as follows:

No input file specified for metadata installation!

PHP debugging backtrace

array(3) { [1]=> array(4) { ["file"]=> string(37) "/var/www/CQPweb/lib/exiterror.inc.php" ["line"]=> int(210) ["function"]=> string(17) "exiterror_general" ["args"]=> array(3) { [0]=> &string(50) "No input file specified for metadata installation!" [1]=> &NULL [2]=> &NULL } } [2]=> array(4) { ["file"]=> string(42) "/var/www/CQPweb/lib/metadata-admin.inc.php" ["line"]=> int(80) ["function"]=> string(9) "exiterror" ["args"]=> array(1) { [0]=> &string(50) "No input file specified for metadata installation!" } } [3]=> array(4) { ["file"]=> string(38) "/var/www/CQPweb/exe/metadata-admin.php" ["line"]=> int(3) ["args"]=> array(1) { [0]=> string(42) "/var/www/CQPweb/lib/metadata-admin.inc.php" } ["function"]=> string(7) "require" } }

Other than this problem, I'd also like to know as for the handle for the fields when I am creating the metada, are they referring to the P and S attributes in the reg file created?

Best,
Yu
