[CWB] How to use text categories?

They can't. You can only set text category descriptions under "Manage text categories".

(You can apply category descriptions to a text_.... s-attribute under "Manage XML", because they are still s-attributes, even if you've used them ot generate your text metadata. But it won't have any effect.

That is "text" as it appears in "corpus XML" refers just to the s-attribute of the underlying CWB index. The CQPweb "text" entities & their metadata are *derived* from, that s-attribute, but not identical to it.

Perhaps "text" and its family of s-attributes should be hidden in "manage xml" once the text metadata has been installed? (they need to be visible before that in order for the datatype to be set prior to import into the text metadata from the s-attribute)

This might make things clearer...

best

Andrew.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your help! Text categories work now as expected.
There is still one thing I don't understand: Why can the category
descriptions be set both under "Manage text categories" and "Manage
corpus XML"?

Best,
Stefan
