A little more head-scratching seems to have given me the answer.
Updated cqpweb using svn, ran php.upgrade-database, re-ran frequency
list creation, and now things are looking bettter
"Your query “well” returned 81 matches in 1 text (in 127,782 words [1
text]; frequency: 633.89 instances per million words)"
Best,
Graham.

Hello to all,
Apologies for this message; I'm more or less certain the question has
already been addressed, but have trawled through my archives with no
success.
Briefly, with a cqpweb in the box, I've installed a pos-tagged and
lemmatised corpus. Searches work, so to speak, but I get the message
that the corpus only has one word, e.g.
Your query “well” returned 81 matches in 1 text (in 1 words [1 text];
frequency: 81,000,000.00 instances per million words)
Many thanks if anybody can see what I've done wrong.
Best,
Graham.
