Dear Timm,

Thank you for the help – this is much easier indeed

Best,
Thomas

The simplest way to install the CWB on a current Mac is via Homebrew.
If you want to install from source you should use the tarball with the most recent stable version (3.5) from our Sourceforge page.
Sorry, this part isn't well documented since the website hasn't been updated yet.

Dear all,

I have been working with CWB for several years, but am not able to install it from source on a new Mac.

I am trying to install CWB on an M2 Mac running MacOS Ventura, compiling from source (cwb-3.4.22-source.tar.gz<https://sourceforge.net/projects/cwb/files/cwb/cwb-3.4-beta/cwb-3.4.22-source.tar.gz/download>). Following the instructions in the INSTALL file provided, I used Homebrew to install the prerequisites, but was not able to install ar and ranlib code archive utilities.

I then get "Makefile:182: depend.mk: No such file or directory” and similar messages when running "make depend” and "error: unknown target CPU 'apple-a12’” when running "make all".

Accordingly, " sudo ./install-scripts/install-mac-osx “ will also not work, producing errors like "building for macOS-x86_64 but attempting to link with file built for macOS-arm64”, "ld: symbol(s) not found for architecture i386”, "clang: error: linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see invocation)”, "make[1]: *** [cwb-atoi] Error 1
“, "make: *** [utils] Error 2”.

Any tips on what I could do to install CWB either this way or in any other way on my Mac? (I have been fine working with CWB, encoding corpora etc and had no issues installing it previously, but am struggling with compiling from source.)

Thanks in advance for any help,
Thomas
