Hi Jörn,
This is not specific to any particular installer. It's a limitation of the user-corpus system overall: it does not have any way to add text metadata.
As you've found, you CAN install XML metadata, including attributes on <text>, by making that part of the configuration, so the user themselves doesn't have to specify it (although you are now reliant on the user supplying files that have the attributes correctly formatted). However, XML metadata on <text> does not automatically get promoted to text metadata ("text" is a special concept in CQPweb, more than just one more s-attribute).
The reason for that is simply that the system for text metadata installation is too complex for the assumed level of knowledge of non-technical users, not just in terms of the interface, but also in terms of the underlying concepts, and the need to provide properly formatted input files.
While I do want to provide a system for users to add text metadata, it's something that will take a lot of thought to make usable without technical know-how. So not something that will happen quickly.
best
Andrew

Subject: [CWB] BasicVRTInstaller, CQPweb v3.3.18, svn revision 1883, User Corpora Metadata
Dear CWB list members,
I have activated the user corpora system and registered the
BasicVRTInstaller with extra_config values for "xml_template_id" and
"xml_template_id".
My test user can select the BasicVRTInstaller instance and successfully
import a test corpus which consists of a single text. The correct
p-attributes and s-attributes are present and can be used in queries
with "within region" constraints, however, neither the text metadata nor
the metadata present in attributes of other XML elements is available
for restricted queries.
The message on the restricted queries page reads: There are no text
classification schemes set up for this corpus.
And, of course, the "distribution" feature does not work as well. The
message reads: This corpus has no classification metadata for texts, so
a distribution for texts cannot be shown.
The same one-text corpus installed via the admin interface doesn't have
this problem.
So my questions are:
Is it possible to use the BasicVRTInstaller to install corpora with all
metadata so that anything depending on a metadata table being present
will work?
If not, is there another installer or a combination of installers to
accomplish this?
Thank you and all the best,
Jörn
