[CWB] Corpora alignment issue on CQPweb

“no alignment found” is a message from deep within CQP that CQPweb passes on unaltered. It means exactly what it says: for the zone in the source corpus where the hit occurs, there exists no zone in the target corpus that is defined as equivalent.

So the steps are:

  * Check in your input files what zone (i.e. what s_id instance) the source hit is in.
  * Check in your input files whether there exists a corresponding zone in the target corpus.
  * Check what the IDs are.
  * Check your alignment input data to see whether there is a bead that aligns those two zones.
  * Check that the processing of the alignment was correct (e.g. the pattern specified for the IDs, etc.)

If all that is OK, then

  * Check that the s_id is indexed correctly and accessible for both corpora (using command line CQP)
  * Check whether any position in the source corpus prints out an aligned region in CQP

… and hopefully doing all that will give you some idea of what the problem actually is.

Sorry not to be more help. the aligned corpus function in CQPweb is primitive I’m afraid - a very, very thin layer over the relevant command line CWB programs. Almost any problem you encounter will require troubleshooting on the command line.

best

Andrew.

Hi everyone,

Following up on the alignment issue, it appears that fixing the s_id attribute did not resolve the alignment display problem. We are still receiving the error message "no alignment found" when running a query.

Could you please advise on what other steps we might take to troubleshoot why the alignment is not showing up in CQPweb?

Qu Min

Hi Min,

Did fixing the s_id then fix the alignment display problem?

Hi everyone,

I believe I have found the root cause of the alignment issue: I realized I forgot to include the s attribute (s_id) when installing the corpora.

I believe I have declared the parallel alignment on CQPweb. However, when I conduct a query, it says no alignment found.

Hello,
Have your declared the parallel alignments, using the left hand menu? You didn't mention this, which is the final step, after the command line stuff!

Objet : [CWB] Corpora alignment issue on CQPweb

Dear CWB developers,

We have installed two separate corpora and added alignment using command-line CWB methods. However, when we conduct a query, the results still do not show any alignment.

I am not sure where I should look to identify and resolve this issue. Could you please provide some guidance on troubleshooting the CWB alignment process?

Thank you for your help.

Best,
Qu Min
