Yeah, it's one of those things that sounds good in theory, but in practice I am loath to add such a whopping external dependency to the process (and since not everyone would want to use docker the non-docker process would need to be maintained in parallel).

I am 100% in favour of efforts to provide external sources for alternative installation formats, though. And of course any such can be linked from the main CWB website installation instructions page.

Yes that's right. They are already available if you have MySQL v 8; but they are not in 5.7, or in any MariaDB to date.<br>

<div>May I suggest that's exactly where a Docker solution comes in handy? As Maarten Jansen recently wrote, starting from egon stemle's TEITOK image, I have been developing a TEITOK solution based on Docker (<a href="https://github.com/rahonalab/cqp-docker">https://github.com/rahonalab/cqp-docker</a>),
which I plan to expand to the Open Corpus Workbench plus cqpweb. The project already features a separate SQL container, which can be configured to run the latest version of MySQL (<a href="https://hub.docker.com/_/mysql">https://hub.docker.com/_/mysql</a>).</div>
<div>I have tested the docker solution both on Linux and Mac, and it works fine without any further adjustments: it should runs fine on windows as well, but I have never tried.</div>
