<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif">I recently had to rebuild & reinstall the CWB-Perl modules and found that CWB::CL had some odd behaviour with regard to the libraries it depended on, with error messages not
previously seen.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif">(This is on Debian forky).

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif">Basically, compilation failed with the message that some library was not available; however, checking showed that the libraries
<i>were</i> installed on the system. The libraries in question were libcrypt and libglib2.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif">What I worked out eventually is that, for the libraries in question, the Perl compiler was looking only for a library with the extension
<b>.so</b> , but the OS package in question had only installed a <b>.so.0</b> . You only got the
<b>.so</b> file if you installed the corresponding <b>-dev</b> package. (actually both the .so and the .so.0 are symlinks to something with another name, but that’s a whole other kettle of fish)<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif">So once I installed
<b>libcrypt-dev</b> and <b>libglib2.0-dev</b> everything worked as it did previously.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
