Dear Community,

This is the Special Interest Group mailing list on the Web as Corpus
(SIGWAC). Our statutory aims are (just as a quick reminder) to promote
interest in the use of the Web as a corpus; to provide ACL members with
a special interest in the Web as a corpus with a means of exchanging
news about current research developments and other matters of interest
in the field; and to sponsor meetings and workshops on the Web as a
corpus that seem timely and worthwhile, within the framework of the
ACL's general guidelines for SIGs.

Our SIG is about to become a teenager, so it seems only logical that we
are in a crisis: are we special? what is our interest (do we have more
than one, probably too many)? and finally, are we really a group? The
only thing is that with a SIG, instead of going through the process, we
can afford to dissolve it. Of course, SIGs are not meant to last
forever, but we should discontinue them when there's no longer a need.

As we, the acting officers (President and Secretary), have repeatedly
asked others to carry the torch further into the future but have
received no response, we find ourselves at the end of our officers'
duties and the end of the SIGWAC journey. If no one picks up the torch
right about now, we will dissolve the SIG.

If you feel you could be up to the task but have questions, get in touch
with us - otherwise, we should start saying our farewells...

Best,
Egon and (also on behalf of) Roland (acting Secretary and President)
