[CWB] CQPweb

Hi,

The CQP query language is still there and can be accessed from the main query screen via the "Query mode" dropdown. The top option is "CQP syntax".

Indeed, the Simple Query language (CEQL) is in effect a condensed shorthand for a subset of the features supported by CQP query language. It is a feature copied from BNCweb, and it is easier for beginners - which includes all my UG students using the system here at Lancaster! - than full CQP syntax.

All Simple Queries are translated into CQP queries when they are run (you can see how this works on the Query History page).

Stefan will know better than me about the Perl WebCqp as it is not used in the CQPweb interface.

best

Andrew.

PS - three or four people have emailed to ask for visitor accounts following my initial reply to Jörg - I will respond to these requests as soon as I can!

Hello again,

Thank you very much for the link (and the guest account). It looks nice
(what I can say after a couple of simple queries)

One question: What happened to the CQP query language. There is not
going to be support in CQPweb for this? Is there a reason for moving to
the "simple query language" instead?

By the way, the old WebCqp module is not goint to be included in any
future releases of the Perl CWB support, is it? I just wanted to have
minimal effort of adjusting my existing interfaces when moving to the
latest CWB distribution. Can I still use the old WebCqp with the latest
versions of CWB and its Perl modules?

cheers,
Jörg

I'll send you the details off-list; anyone reading this who would also like to try out CQPweb should email me (a.hardie at lancaster.ac.uk) and I can create accounts for you as well.
