Hi Andrew,

> ·        It will be much easier to have "open" CQPweb systems, i.e. systems where someone who is not logged in can use the corpora, but not the admin interface; this is currently very fraught, but I’m aware it is something quite a few people want to do

On our CQPweb interface for Portuguese, we have decided to offer users two types of access: registered and not registered. The idea behind the unregistered access is that we conjecture that most users would want to limit interaction to a few queries only, without the need for all "User controls" facilities (which have been disabled in this version) offered by CQPweb (query savings and subcorpus creation). In this way we can dedicate our resources for registered users who really use the corpus extensively. After a few weeks of public release, it looks like this was a sensible decision. The unregistered version averages a few hundreds queries daily (the "_unknown_" user), while only a handful of users have chosen to register. Of course, the unregistered version is more vulnerable for abuse (we have had a few hundreds of queries for pharmaceutical products), but fencing the platform against these abuses is relatively straightforward (thanks to Andrew's help).

Thanks again Andrew (and the team) for your work and your help. We are happy to give back however we can to make CQPweb even better.

best wishes,

Michel Généreux
