[CWB] Dramatic texts in cqpweb

Dear Graham,

it is not exactly experience with TEI performance texts I have on offer, but an approximation. In the PolMine Project (www.polmine.de), we have prepared corpora of plenary protocols („GermaParl“, draft online documentation at polmine.sowi.uni-due.de/docs/GermaParl), and we have moved to a a TEI standardization. As there is not yet an ‚official’ TEI standard for plenary proceedings, we used performance texts as an inspiration and approximation. That may be quite close to the issues you face.

For a couple of reasons, TEI is not quite appropriate for importing it into the Corpus Workbench – the header ist the main obstacle, as I would see it. So what we do is to transform the initial preparation of the GermaParl TEI into a CWB-ready format, using an XSL. TEI is wonderful for storing corpora in a persistent fashion, and the CWB is brilliant for actually working with the data.

I am preparing a release of the GermaParl corpus, no obstacle to share experiences.

Kind regards
Andreas (Blätte)

    Dear all,
I am writing to enquire whether anyone has any (preferably successful)
experience of working with dramatic texts in cqpweb. There are TEI
recommendations for performance texts. Can these be implemented in
cqpweb satisfactorily or will the passage to cqpweb lose them? (As I
understand it, TEI is not implemented in cqpweb but cqpweb is TEI
compliant.) Ideal would be the possibility of searching within a scene,
an act, one (or several) speaker's contributions, the stage directions, etc.
Many thanks in advance for any pointers in the right direction.
    G. R.
